Now Offering Registered Massage Therapy! October 03 2019

We're so excited to officially offer Registered Massage Therapy at our Toronto Holistic Skincare Clinic! These customized + targeted massage treatments are designed to manipulate the soft tissue, muscles, ligaments, and joints in the body to promote relief + relaxation. Our Registered Massage Therapist will complete a full-body intake to help guide the overall treatment, based on your unique needs. RMT clients will be given a receipt to submit to their health insurance provider.

To celebrate the launch of this new treatment, we caught up with the most recent addition to our clinic team, Registered Massage Therapist, Jamie Boer. We can't wait for you to meet her!

What is an RMT?

A Registered Massage Therapist is a healthcare practitioner who is registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. RMT’s are trained to treat soft tissues of the body, specifically, the muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints for the purpose of optimizing health. RMT’s maintain their registration by completing continuing education courses to ensure they maintain their high professional standards and quality of care. RMTs work with a wide variety of patients in the treatment of illness, injury, rehabilitation and disability.

Benefits of RMT

Massage Therapy can be significantly beneficial for a variety of conditions among clients from all age groups. Whether you need to have an hour of relaxation, reduce muscle tension or attain relief from chronic or acute pain, massage therapy can be an integral part of your self-care regimen. Massage therapy can be also be beneficial for individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, PTSD and physical manifestation of mental stress. Massage Therapy has also been proven to have a positive effect on individuals with cancer, Parkinson’s, Lymphedema, and Fibromyalgia. Massage therapy can also be useful as a preventative care routine including injury prevention and stress management.

What are your favourite parts of being an RMT?

My favourite part of being an RMT is making a difference in your day. Whether it’s giving you the space to relax for an hour or alleviating chronic pain, I feel deeply honoured in being a part of your self-care. I feel like my job description is ‘making people feel good’, and I feel super grateful for that!

Why did you become an RMT?

From a young age I felt called to be a Massage Therapist, even before I knew it was a real job! I started massaging friends and family at the age of 12 and was voted “Most likely to be a Massage Therapist” in my junior-high school year book. Just a few years ago I discovered my Yayia (grandmother) was a ‘healer’ in her small village in Greece and would perform massage and cupping. I like to think it’s in my blood for me to carry on her legacy.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

You can’t give from an empty cup. (To take care of others you must take care of yourself first!)

If you weren’t an RMT, what would you be doing?

I make pottery in my down time so I would probably to try to make that my full time gig!
