Isn't it a bad idea to put oil on my skin if I have acne?

There is a misconception that putting oil on your skin will cause you to break out more. This isn't true at all!

Our Moisturizing Cleanser + Make Up Remover Avocado & Raspberry  is an oil cleanser that works for everyone because it does not strip the skin's natural lipid layer, but rather works with it to self-regulate. Oil cleansing will re-balance your skin so that there is no over-production of sebum throughout the day. Alternatively, if you have dry skin, it will allow further production of oil to occur. Dry skin is lacking oil - dehydrated skin is lacking water. READ MORE ABOUT OIL CLEANSING HERE

Raspberry seed oil in particular is great for acneic skin because it's extremely high in Linoleic acid, a fatty acid found to be lacking in the sebum of acneic skin.

Sebum is the oily mixture of triglycerides, wax esters, squalene, free fatty acids and cholesterol that is secreted by the sebaceous glands found all over your body, except your palms and the bottoms of your feet. Sebum is an important product of all healthy skin, but the composition of sebum present on acneic skin has been found to differ from the sebum of people without acne, most notably that it is lower in Linoleic acid. This difference is what can cause acne to occur by making sebum sticky and clog pores, not the presence of oil.

Red raspberry seed oil contains approximately 54.% linoleic acid and 29% α-linolenic acid, helping to restore your sebum levels and prevent breakouts.

In addition to its ability to balance your natural facial oils, raspberry seed oil is also very high in Tocopherols, a form of Vitamin E, and has a very high antioxidant capacity to fade sunspots and repair skin damage.

Raspberry Sun Repair & Brightening Mask

1 tbsp of mashed, fresh raspberries

1 tsp of Honey

2-3 tsp of Clay Mask

1 tsp of Yogurt

Mix with water or coconut water and add aloe for an extra boost of hydration. We recommend that you do not do this immediately after sun exposure, as it will irritate sunburnt skin.

This is the first oil cleanser I've ever tried. I was a bit skeptical at the idea, but I got a sample after a facial, and after a week of using it twice a day, I am totally converted. It's so pleasant to use - the smell is great and it leaves my skin feeling clean and smooth. And so far it seems to have a calming effect on my skin, rather than making me break out like I had feared.
