Using Vitamin C in Your Skincare Routine August 11 2020

Vitamin C is definitely one of the most popular skincare ingredients and it’s no wonder why. It works! Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps to slow the aging process, even skin tone and texture, boost collagen, and help repair free radical damage. What are free radicals you ask? They’re rogue molecules that cause premature aging and often come in the form of environmental factors like sun damage, pollution and oxygen. These factors slowly damage and degrade our skin but using vitamin C, we give our skin the support and protection it needs against these external factors.

When regularly incorporated into your skincare routine, Vitamin C provides a wide range of benefits that help keep your skin healthy, bright, and glowing:

  • Brightens scarring and pigmentation
  • Reduces redness and inflammation
  • Helps to repair and rejuvenate skin
  • Improves skin’s tone and texture
  • Works well with sunscreen to prevent UV damage

Vitamin C Rich Serums

Using a serum rich in vitamin C is considered the most effective way to see the benefits of vitamin C. Serums are more concentrated and tend to affect deeper layers of the skin. While using vitamin C rich masks and moisturizers are great, they tend to not be as effective long term.

Rosehip Oil: Rosehip oil is derived from the rosa canina rose bush, which is grown mostly in Chile and pressed from the fruit and seeds of the rose plant.
Rosehip oil has been used for its healing and regenerative benefits. This oil is loaded with nourishing vitamin C, essential fatty acids and phenols that have been shown to be anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and gently exfoliating. This oil is naturally hydrating, protective and great for all skin types. You can find rosehip oil in our Rejuvenating and Hydrating Serum.

Sea Buckthorn Oil: Sea Buckthorn oil has been used in Chinese medicine for hundreds of years. The fruit contains a high concentration of natural Vitamin C. Sea Buckthorn is also rich in vitamin E, omega 3’s and beta carotene. It has a beautiful rich red colour and works well to hydrate, regenerate, and protect sensitive or reactive skin types. You can find sea buckthorn oil in our Clear Skin Advanced Serum.

For best results with Vitamin C, follow these guidelines:

Apply your serum morning and night: Vitamin C fights against environmental damage, UV rays, and protects your skin from pollution when you’re out all day. For the most effective results, make sure to apply your serum morning and night.

Wear SPF with your Vitamin C: Applying a layer of sunscreen on top of your vitamin C helps to make both products more effective. The vitamin C helps to protect your skin from UV damage and the sunscreen helps prevent the vitamin C from oxidizing.

Store your product in a cool, dark, dry place: To prevent oxidation, keep your serum stored in a cool, dark place. Also, make sure the lid is completely sealed to prevent any air getting into the product. This helps keep your vitamin C serum potent and effective.
